Hike for Hospice

On a beautiful clear day in Calgary, Tony Clark, General Counsel, donning a Hike for Hospice T-shirt alongside his wife and two daughters - and over 45 Graham employees and their loved ones - enjoyed a 5 km (3.1 mi.) hike at Fish Creek Provincial Park. Like many of the over 300 hikers present, he walked in memory of a loved one who passed away in the last year.

"I have seen first hand the support that hospices like Hospice Calgary provide to those people facing life-threatening illnesses and their families. The care and compassion shown by the staff is remarkable," says Clark. "Overall, this day was about celebrating the people and organization who give so much."

Throughout the morning event, hikers were treated to an appearance by members of the Calgary Stampeders, and The City of Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi. Prizes and goodie bags were also handed out after the hike. With Graham serving as Honourary Event Sponsor, Brian Lueken, COO, presented Hospice Calgary with a cheque for CDN$10,000 in support of the organization's programs and services. Overall, over CDN$75,000 was raised at the event - Hospice's most successful one to date.

For more than 25 years, Hospice Calgary has been providing compassionate care, education and hope to thousands of men, women and children living with terminal illness, or grieving the loss of a family member or friend. The Hike event, now in its third year, raises funds and awareness for the programs and services Hospice Calgary provides to thousands of people each year.

Graham has a close relationship with Hospice Calgary. Over the last few years, employees have volunteered to renovate the interior and exterior to Hospice's Outreach & Education Centre. In 2010, the non-profit organization nominated Graham for a Generosity of Spirit Award in the category of Corporate Philanthropist.
