Nailing Down Habitat for Humanity's Frame Game

Armed with hammers, hard hats and a whole lot of heart, Graham employees framed two homes in two days as part of Habitat for Humanity Edmonton's Frame Game in September 2010.

"We would do this again in a heart beat. It was fun to be competitive and apply our skills," says George Smith, Project Manager, Edmonton, who led a team of eight Graham volunteers to frame an entire house in just over eight hours. "It was also a great chance for us to come together and get to know one another outside of work."

Spread over two weekends, Graham registered two teams and competed against seven other companies to frame a duplex home, readying it for the roof to be placed atop. For each participating company, the overall goal was to frame an entire home in less than eight hours.

Since 1991, Habitat for Humanity Edmonton has provided low-income families a hand up into home ownership. By mobilizing volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership, the cycle of poverty is broken, one door at a time. It was a successful day that brought families one step closer to realizing their dream of home ownership.

"Although we all hurt the next day, it felt really good to participate," says Patrick Tsang, Senior Project Manager, Edmonton. "We could apply our expertise as builders and also build a home for a deserving family. You couldn't ask for a more fitting situation."
